Freedive watches... Do I really need one?
Posted on February 06 2019
Freedive watches seem to be commonly overlooked by many spearos, of course they don't have as much glamour to them as something like that new carbon fiber speargun or the latest and greatest yamamoto open cell wetsuit. But all of that might not matter if a spearo is unconscious..
We highly recommend taking a freediving course to catch spearos up to speed if they're not familiar with surface intervals and shallow water blackouts. CO2 build up can cause shallow water blackouts and a dive watch/computer will help monitor this. A shop favorite has always been the Oceanic F10. Big display makes things easier to see under water and it's very easy to use. But for the diver that want's all the bells and whistles, the Garmin Descent MK1 GPS Watch is definitely worth checking out. And for those looking not to break the bank, the Seac Driver Dive Watch is a viable option that will give divers all the features that will help dive safely.
